Chinese Ambassador to Lithuania Wei Ruixing Called Upon New Prime Minister of Lithuania

On February 20th, 2017, H. E. Mr. Wei Ruixing, Chinese Ambassador to Lithuania, paid a courtesy call upon H. E. Mr. Saulius Skvernelis, new Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, exchanging views on China-Lithuania relations and on strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields between the two countries. Mr. Arnoldas Pikžirnis, Advisor to the Prime Minister, Mr. Ma Taotao, Counselor of the Chinese Embassy, were present at the meeting.

 

Ambassador Wei extended his sincere congratulations to Mr. Skvernelis on his new post as Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, and conveyed to the Prime Minister the cordial greetings and best wishes from H. E. Mr. Li Keqiang, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. "There has been a good momentum in the development of China-Lithuania relations in recent years, with close high-level contacts and fruitful results of cooperation in such areas as economy and trade, transport and logistics, agriculture, people-to-people and cultural exchanges", the Ambassador said, and briefed the Prime Minister on the latest development of China-Lithuania bilateral trade. At the background of slowing down in global trade, China-Lithuania bilateral trade increased 8% with the total volume reaching 1.5 billion US dollars in 2016, among which Lithuania's exports to China increased 18%. Fifteen Lithuanian companies were authorized to export aquatic products and seventeen Lithuanian companies were authorized to export dairy products to China respectively starting from May and August last year. "The Chinese Government appreciates the active participation of the Lithuanian Government in 'the Belt and Road Initiative' and 'China and Central and Eastern European Countries Cooperation', and expects the Prime Minister to attend the 6th Meeting of the Heads of Government of China and CEEC to be held in Hungary later this year", Ambassador Wei said, and expressed his sincere hope and firm belief that China-Lithuania friendly and cooperative relations will be further strengthened during the tenure of office of Mr. Skvernelis as Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania.

 

Prime Minister Skvernelis asked Ambassador Wei to convey his best wishes to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, and briefed the Ambassador on some key points of the program of the new Government. "Lithuania-China relations have been developing smoothly in recent years and yielding new and fruitful results of pragmatic cooperation in various fields, which have brought tangible benefits to the two peoples", the Prime Minister said, and expressed appreciation to the Chinese Government for its support on the export to China of Lithuanian agricultural products, dairy products in particular. "There is a great potential and bright prospect for cooperation in the field of transport and logistics between the two countries. The Lithuanian Government welcomes Chinese enterprises to Lithuania for investment, trade and other business establishments", Prime Minister Skvernelis said, and expressed his hope that the exchanges and cooperation in such areas as economy and trade, ICT, finance and people-to-people between the two countries will be expanded and lifted to a higher level.
