The Chinese Embassy Held a Reception to Mark the 68th China's National Day

On September 27th, 2017, H. E. Ambassador Wei Ruixing and his wife, Madam Gu Yaoqin, hosted a reception to mark the 68th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China at Hotel Radisson Blu Lietuva. About 350 people, including members of the Seimas, government officials, leaders of the commercial and business community, members of the Diplomatic Corps and representatives of the Chinese community in Lithuania, attended the reception. Among them were Prof. Kęstutis Glaveckas, Chair of the Committee on Budget and Finance of the Seiams and Head of the Group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with China, Amb. Kęstutis Kudzmanas, Chief Foreign Policy Adviser to the Speaker, Amb. Deividas Matulionis, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Vice Ministers of Culture, Economy, Agriculture, Amb. Neilas Tankevičius, Director of the State and Diplomatic Protocol Department of the Foreign Ministry, Mr. Vytautas Grigaravičius, Mayor of Alytus, Prof. Juozas Augutis, Rector of Vytautas Magnus University, Prof. Algirdas Monkevičius, Rector of Mykolas Romeris University, Mr. Mindaugas Reinikis, Chairman of Lithuania-China Business Council, etc.

When making his remarks, Ambassador Wei briefed the guests the remarkable achievements China has made in economic development and social undertakings during the past year while maintaining a good momentum of economic growth, saying that China has been actively providing guidance to the international economic cooperation, giving impetus to the world economic development and adding confidence to the international community. "China adheres to peaceful development and is ready to offer China's proposals and to make China's voice heard in international affairs" said the Ambassador, stressing that China would continue on the path of major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and make unremitting efforts in building new type of international relations of win-win cooperation and for common prosperity.


Ambassador Wei reviewed the past year's unprecedented development of friendly and cooperative relations between China and Lithuania, highlighting frequent exchange of high-level visits and meetings, constant enhancement of mutual political trust, sustained expansion of trade and economic cooperation and more and more people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The official visit to Lithuania in April by H. E. Mr. Zhang Dejiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, not only consolidated mutual political trust between the two countries, but also gave an impetus to the further exchanges and cooperation between the two legislatures, the expanding and deepening of pragmatic cooperation in various fields and the promotion of healthy and sound development of bilateral relations in the years to come. The trade between China and Lithuania was accelerated, with the total trade volume reaching nearly one billion US dollars in the first half of 2017, up by 27%, among which Lithuanian export to China was about 170 million US dollars, an increase of 41%. Cooperation in the areas of agriculture, transport and logistics, education and Hi-Tech was expanded both in scope and in depth, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples. A series of events of people-to-people and cultural exchanges were successfully held in both China and Lithuania, promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples and the further development of China-Lithuania relations.


The guests applauded China's remarkable economic and social development, commended China's important role in international affairs, and expressed that they would make unremitting efforts to promote the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Lithuania.


A group of Chinese students and volunteers offered the guests several pieces of Chinese folk music with traditional Chinese string instruments such as Guzheng (also known as Chinese Zither) and Pipa. The reception went on in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
