Comments by the Office of the Chargé d'Affaires of the People's Republic of China in Lithuania on Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Economy and Innovation Mr. Karolis Žemaitis’ visit to Taiwan
2022-09-20 01:33

Q: According to reports, Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Economy and Innovation Mr. Karolis Žemaitis arrived in Taiwan on September 10 with a delegation of 28 officials and business representatives, and started a five-day visit to Taiwan with the aim of deepening economic, trade and scientific cooperation between Lithuania and Taiwan. What is China's comment?

As China has numerously stressed to Lithuania that the Taiwan question is a matter of China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity and cannot be interfered with by any external forces. We firmly oppose all forms of official interaction between the Taiwan region and countries having diplomatic ties with China. However, Lithuania, in disregard of China's solemn position and repeated dissuasion, has dispatched four deputy ministerial officials, including Deputy Minister of Economy and Innovation Ms. Jovita Neliupšienė, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Mr. Egidijus Giedraitis, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Ms. Agnė Vaiciukevičiūtė, and Deputy Minister of Economy and Innovation Mr. Karolis Žemaitis, to visit China's Taiwan region since this year, repeatedly violating its political commitments and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and created egregious impact of "one China, one Taiwan" in the international community. China urges Lithuania to immediately stop political maneuvering on the Taiwan question, stop acting as a pawn of "Taiwan independence" and anti-China forces, stop undermining China's core interests, and not to go further and further down the wrong path, otherwise all consequences arising from this will be borne by Lithuania.
