Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Holds Talks with His Rwandan Counterpart

On July 21, 2004, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Li Zhaoxing held working talks with visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda S. E. M. Charles Murigande at the office building of the Chinese foreign ministry. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations between the two countries and regional issues.

Li Zhaoxing made positive comments on the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Rwanda, expressing appreciation and thanks to the Rwandan government for its consistent adherence to the one-China policy and support for China's positions in international affairs. Li Zhaoxing expressed hopes that the two sides will enhance the friendly exchanges at all levels and between various departments in the future, deepen cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, culture, education and health, strengthen coordination and consultation in international affairs and jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.

Murigande said that Rwanda-China relations are currently in good shape and the Rwandan government is grateful to the Chinese government for its precious support and assistance when Rwanda was in difficulty and when Rwanda is striving for national reconstruction. He reiterated that Rwanda will continue adhering to the one-China policy and stands ready to enhance exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in various fields and at all levels.

Murigande started his official visit to China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Li Zhaoxing on July 19.
