The Proposal on Taiwan's "Participation" in the UN Foiled Again
2004-09-15 00:00

On September 15, 2004, according to the chairperson's decision, the General Committee of the 59th Session of the UN General Assembly decided to refuse the inclusion of the draft resolution on Taiwan's "Participation" into the agenda of the UN General Assembly. Ninety-three countries made remarks at the meeting, expressing adherence to the one-China policy, support for UN General Assembly's Resolution 2758 on China's representation and opposition to including Taiwan's "participation" into the agenda of the UN General Assembly. This is the 12th consecutive time that China has foiled the attempt by Taiwan authorities to include Taiwan's "participation" into the agenda of the UN General Assembly. After the meeting, Permanent Representative of China to the UN Ambassador Wang Guangya received an interview by the media, such as Xinhua News Agency and CCTV, expressing gratitude to countries that support China in their remarks at the meeting.
