Jia Qinglin Meets with Nepalese King Gyanendra

On April 24, 2005, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political and Consultative Conference Jia Qinglin met in Boao with Nepalese King Gyanendra who was there to attend the 2005 Annual Conference of the Boao Forum. The guest and the host held cordial and friendly talks.

Jia welcomed King Gyanendra to the annual conference of the forum. He said China-Nepal friendship has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples. Despite different national realities, both sides have been consistently adhering to the five principles of peaceful co-existence, treating each other as equals, and trusting and supporting each other over the years. Bilateral relations have maintained sustained and sound momentum of development. We have set a good example for countries with different social systems to co-exist peacefully.

Jia said the Chinese government pursues the foreign policy of "being a good neighbor and partner" with its neighboring countries. China-Nepal friendship conforms to the interests of both peoples as well as to regional peace and stability. We would like to work with Nepal to take the opportunity of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties to inject new vigor and vitality to China-Nepal good neighborly cooperative relations of friendship and mutual benefits.

Gyanendra said he just held friendly talks with President Hu Jintao in Jakarta to exchange in-depth views with him on bilateral relations. The top-level exchanges are conducive to the continuous development of Nepal-China friendly cooperative relations. He thanked China for its consistent support, indicating the Nepalese government and people regard China as a trustworthy friend.

Gyanendra reiterated that the Nepalese government firmly upholds the one-China policy and supports the adoption of the Anti-Secession Law by China's National People's Congress.

Following the meeting, Jia and Gyanendra looked with reverence at the Buddhist sculpture presented by the king.
