Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang Meets with Joint Press Delegation of Latin American and Caribbean Countries

On September 28, 2009, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang met with the joint press delegation composed of 21 senior journalists from 18 mainstream media of 14 Latin American and Caribbean countries including Argentina, Brazil, Barbados, Panama and Peru. Li extended welcome to the delegation which paid the visit on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China. He expressed hope that the journalists will accurately introduce what they see, hear and feel to their people at home and play a positive role in building mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and the Latin American people and in pushing for healthy and steady development of China-Latin America relations.

Li upon request answered in an extensive and detailed manner questions from the journalists on the governing philosophy of the Communist Party of China, China's political system, the scientific concept of development, China's development path and experience, how China views its increasingly important influence on the world and China's policy towards bilateral relations with Latin American and Caribbean countries. He also introduced in details China's enormous achievements over the past 6 decades since the founding of the People's Republic of China, especially the past 30 years since reform and opening up and made positive comments on the development of China-Latin America relations in recent years. He emphasized that China attaches importance to developing ties with Latin America and is ready to make concerted efforts with Latin American countries to continue advancing pragmatic cooperation in all areas and open up new prospects for China-Latin America relations. The journalists thanked Vice Foreign Minister Li for answering in details their questions concerning the theory and practice model of China's development as well as China's foreign policy and China-Latin America relations. They said it will help them to gain an in-depth understanding of China and provide better coverage of China. As part of the 100-correspondent delegation of developing countries to attend the celebration on the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China at the invitation of the Press Center, the delegation visited Beijing, Shanghai and Wuxi.
