Yang Jiechi Co-chairs the First Meeting of Inter-Governmental Coordination Committee between China and Cambodia with Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong of Cambodia

  On January 2, 2014, the First Meeting of Inter-governmental Coordination Committee between China and Cambodia was held in Beijing. State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Hor Namhong, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, co-chaired the meeting. The two sides have reached broad consensus on strengthening bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, and have confirmed the next-step goals and specific measures for boosting cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, agriculture, defense, law-enforcement, culture and others.

  Yang Jiechi said that China and Cambodia are good neighbors, partners and brothers. China will unswervingly deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation with Cambodia, will support Cambodia in maintaining stability, speeding up development and playing a bigger role in international and regional affairs. The establishment of the Inter-governmental Coordination Committee between China and Cambodia is an important decision made by the state leaders of the two countries as required by the in-depth development of China-Cambodia relations. China is willing to work with Cambodia to make good use of this important platform to push for new outcomes in bilateral strategic cooperation, to achieve common development, and to bring tangible benefits to the two peoples.

  Hor Namhong said that they were very glad to be the first foreign delegation received by the Chinese government in the New Year. Cambodia thanked China for the help and support for Cambodia maintaining stability and development. Cambodia is committed to strengthening all-round cooperation with China. The Inter-Governmental Coordination Committee between China and Cambodia is a high-level cooperative mechanism that involves the largest numbers of departments on both sides and covers the broadest range of topics. Cambodia will closely coordinate with China and discuss cooperation plans to push forward bilateral cooperation in various fields.

  Both sides also exchanged views and reached important consensus on China-ASEAN partnership and other topics.

  Following the meeting, both sides signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of the Inter-Governmental Coordination Committee, as well as the Air Services Agreement and other documents, and jointly unveiled the Cambodian Stamps Exhibition.
