Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayom Meets with Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin

On January 6, 2014, President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayom met with Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin in Male.

Yameen extended his gratitude to China for its long-term support to the efforts of Maldives in preserving its independence, sovereignty and dignity, and for its sincere assistance to Maldives' economic and social development. He expressed that the new government of Maldives will further strengthen its relations with China and adhere to the "One-China Principle". Maldives is willing to intensify high-level contacts with China, and expand economic, trade and personnel exchanges so as to push forward the bilateral relations to a new high.

Liu Zhenmin said, China and Maldives are good friends and good partners. During the 42 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Maldives, the two countries have maintained close high-level exchanges and continuously expanded the cooperation in various areas. Maldives is an important cooperative partner of China in South Asia and the Indian Ocean region. China is willing to work together with the Maldivian new government to deepen all-round pragmatic cooperation and bring more benefits to the peoples of the two countries.

On the same day, Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Dunya Maumoon in Male, and held the fifth round of China-Maldives diplomatic consultation with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Fathimath Inaya.
