Chinese Navy Frigate Yancheng Officially Starts Mission of Escorting Shipping of Syrian Chemical Weapons

According to the joint escort plan reached by the multilateral coordination meeting on the shipping of Syrian chemical weapons, China's frigate Yancheng, joined the joint escort, entered into the Syrian territorial waters on January 7, officially starting the mission of escorting the shipping of Syrian chemical weapons, under close coordination with the warships of Russia, Denmark and Norway.

Escorting the shipping of Syrian chemical weapons is a multilateral collaboration action. In response to the call of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), China's participation in escorting the shipping of Syrian chemical weapons is an important move towards the smooth destruction of Syrian chemical weapons and the promotion of a political solution to the Syrian issue, reflecting China's willingness to take the responsibility of upholding world peace and security as a permanent member of the UNSC.
