2014-01-09 14:07

On January 8, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Hannah Tetteh of Ghana in Accra. Ghanaian Minister of Finance, Minister of Education, Minister of Science and Technology, Minister of Defence and Minister of Energy were present.

Wang Yi expressed, China and Ghana enjoy profound traditional friendship, which is the ballast stone for bilateral relations. Practical cooperation is highly complementary, which is a propeller for the development of bilateral relations. Development strategies of the two countries highly fit in with each other, which are beacon lights for bilateral relations and will lead China-Ghana relations to open up a better future.

Wang Yi pointed out, China is ready to work with Ghana to promote all-dimensional cooperation. Both sides should inherit and carry forward the traditional friendship, enrich it with new contents of the time, adhere to mutual understanding and mutual support and forge ahead in the right direction of bilateral relations. Both sides should summarize the useful practice of practical cooperation to make it more systematic and institutionalized so as to ensure that the future cooperation will be more stable, long-time and sustainable. Both sides should establish the mechanism of regular consultations between responsible departments to enhance understanding and trust, and discover problems in a timely manner and solve them in a reasonable way so that the issues coming out from the cooperation will not affect the overall friendship between the two countries and the mainstream of mutual benefit and win-win outcomes for bilateral relations.

Tetteh expressed that, for the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relationship, China's friendship and help for Ghana have been consistent, with quite a number of projects built with Chinese assistance in Ghana as an important witness. China has offered great support for Africa to promote self-improvement through unity, peace and security, as well as development and rejuvenation and has spoken up for Africa on the international arena. It has enhanced the status and influence of Africa and won the trust of African people. China's achievements in economic and social development and its commitment to fully deepening reform and opening up have as well set an example for Ghana. Ghana and China should always adhere to sincere treatment and mutual respect, and promote mutually beneficial cooperation in a practical manner in the fields of infrastructure construction, health care, scien-tech, education, energy, security and defence so as to promote unceasing development of bilateral relations.
