Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming Visits Egypt

From January 7 to 9, 2014, Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming visited Egypt, met with Deputy Prime Minister and International Cooperation Minister of Egypt's interim government Ziyad Bahaa Eddin and Egyptian Assistant Defense Minister Major General Said Elassar, and held a talk with Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister Abdel-Moati.

Zhang Ming said that the relationship between China and Egypt has always maintained the sound and stable development since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries nearly 60 years ago. China regards and develops China-Egypt relations from a strategic height and a long-term perspective, and is willing to strengthen the pragmatic cooperation with Egypt in various fields. Zhang Ming stressed that China respects the rights of the Egyptian people to choose their development path independently and believes that the Egyptian people have the wisdom and ability to find a development path suited to their own national conditions as soon as possible.

The Egyptian side introduced the current situation in Egypt and showed their gratitude to China for its support and assistance, and emphasized that it is Egypt's consistent policy and strategic choice to develop relations with China, and that Egypt is willing to work with China to push forward the bilateral strategic cooperation to new levels.

During his visit to Egypt, Zhang Ming also met with Secretary-General of the Arab League Nabil Elaraby, and the two sides exchanged views on China-Arab (League) relations and regional situation.
