Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister of Russia

In the evening of January 21, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of Russia in Montreux .

Wang Yi said, we met for seven times last year. I'm willing to work with you, continuing to implement all the important consensus reached between the state leaders of the two countries and to promote the in-depth development of China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination. Sochi Winter Olympics is a great event in Russia. It is sure to be be a big success. President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony of Sochi Winter Olympics at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin, and this reflects the mutual support and cooperation between China and Russia on major issues. We believe that President Xi Jinping's trip to Sochi will certainly be a great success, showing the high level and distinctiveness of China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination, making it a good start for bilateral relations in 2014.

Sergey Lavrov said that Russia fervently looks forward to President Xi Jinping's attendance of the opening ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics, and is willing to work closely with China to ensure President Xi's trip a successful and happy one. Russia appreciates China's "Snow Dragon" icebreaker helping Russian vessel get out of trouble, which is another vivid example of mutual support and help between the two peoples.

The two sides also exchanged views on issues of common concern. Wang Yi said that the two heads of state have reached important consensus on commemorating the 70th anniversary of the success of the world anti-fascism war, and both sides should plan ahead and get prepared as early as possible. Sergey Lavrov said that Russia agrees with China's idea, and is willing to cooperate with China, to jointly safeguard the victorious achievements of the world anti-fascism war, and do a good job in the celebration activities of the 70th anniversary.
