2014-02-11 16:18

On February 11, 2014, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met with Yang Jiechi, the Chinese Special Representative on China-India Boundary Question and the State Councilor, in New Delhi.

Singh said that with the active efforts made by the state leaders of the two countries over the years, India-China relations have achieved substantial progress. The Indian side is satisfied and happy with this. A long-term stable development of India-China relations is India’s consistent choice. Both sides should maintain the momentum for high-level exchanges, enhance strategic communication, and work together to ensure the success of the India-China Year of Friendly Exchanges and the commemorative activities for the 60th anniversary of the launch of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence this year. The two countries should continue to promote the bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and the Indian side will actively participate in the construction of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor and the “Silk Road Economic Belt”. Singh praised the active role played by the 17th Special Representatives' Meeting on the India-China Boundary Question. He believed that the two sides should keep seeking solutions to the boundary question through negotiations, and in the mean time maintain a stable development of India-China relations. He also hoped that the two countries would strengthen cooperation in international organizations such as the G20 and BRICS so as to push forward the international political and economic order to move towards a fairer and more reasonable direction.

Yang Jiechi said, last year was a pioneering year and a year of harvest for China-India relations, as the state leaders of the two countries have set up a new framework for China-India strategic cooperation, pushing the bilateral relations to a new phase of rapid development. In this year, a year serving as a link between the past and the future of China-India relations, the two countries are embracing new historic opportunities. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Indian side to continually enhance strategic mutual trust, to get all the activities of the Year of China-India Friendly Exchanges well-organized, to deepen and consolidate practical cooperation in various fields, to promote regional economic integration and connectivity, and to make joint efforts to build the “Silk Road Economic Belt”, so as to make greater contributions to the stability and development of Asia and the world. Yang Jiechi expressed that it is of great significance to inherit and carry forward the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. He also said that China and India have already made some achievements in the talks on boundary question, and the two sides should continue making efforts to seek a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution to it and work together to safeguard peace and tranquility along the border.
