On February 25, 2014, Yu Zhengsheng, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met in Beijing with Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

Ye Zhengsheng positively evaluated the sound development momentum of China-Trinidad and Tobago friendly cooperative relations. He said that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of China-Trinidad and Tobago diplomatic relationship and the bilateral relations have grown stronger with the time and are getting more and more mature and confident. Trinidad and Tobago has already become one of China's most important cooperation partners in the Caribbean region. Mme. Prime Minister's first visit to China will certainly and strongly promote the development of bilateral relations. He hopes that by standing at a new historical starting point, both sides could continuously strengthen political mutual trust, deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation in such fields as infrastructure construction, energy resources and agriculture, expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges and non-governmental contacts, enhance the coordination and cooperation in international affairs, and promote the cooperation between China and Trinidad and Tobago as well as the Caribbean countries to a higher level. The CPPCC is willing to conduct exchanges and cooperation with relevant institutions of Trinidad and Tobago in participation in and deliberation of state affairs and others so as to make positive contributions to the further development of China-Trinidad and Tobago relations.

Kamla Persad-Bissessar expressed that Trinidad and Tobago and China share the common dream of development, and that the country hopes to deepen practical cooperation with China in all fields.
