Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Kamla Persad-Bissessar

On February 26, 2014, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Kamla Persad-Bissessar at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Xi Jinping said that, last June he paid a state visit to Trinidad and Tobago, and received warm and friendly reception from the people there, which left him a wonderful and deep memory. During the visit, he held highly fruitful talks with Prime Minister Bissesar. He is glad to see that, for more than half a year, all the cooperative consensus they’ve reached have made constant progress. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Trinidad and Tobago. China is willing to make joint efforts with Trinidad and Tobago to explore more areas of converging interests, properly plan the medium and long-term cooperation, push forward key projects, promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges and deepen traditional friendship, so as to bring the bilateral relations to a new stage.

Bissessar said that, President Xi Jinping’s successful visit to Trinidad and Tobago is a great honor and unforgettable to them even till now. By visiting China, she strongly felt the Chinese people’s friendship toward the people of Trinidad and Tobago, and the intention and prospect of bilateral cooperation. The Chinese people are striving to realize the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation, which is interlinked to the beautiful dream of the people of Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad and Tobago is willing to strengthen friendly cooperation with China in fields such as politics, economy and trade, and people-to-people and cultural engagement, so as to realize common development. Trinidad and Tobago is ready to actively promote cooperation between the Latin American and Caribbean countries and China.

Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping, was present at the meeting.
