Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Bernard Kamillius Membe of Tanzania

On February 25, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with visiting Foreign Minister of Tanzania Bernard Kamillius Membe in Beijing.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Tanzania enjoy profound traditional friendship. Over the past half century since the establishment of diplomatic relationship, the two countries have always respected, trusted and supported each other and can be called "all-weather" friends. This year coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Tanzania. China is ready to work with Tanzania to ensure success of relevant celebrations and taking this as an opportunity to enhance high-level exchanges between the two countries, to upgrade the level of practical cooperation and to strengthen consultations on international affairs, so as to push for unceasing development of China-Tanzania comprehensive cooperative partnership of mutual benefit and win-win outcome.

Wang Yi expressed, last year President Xi Jinping visited three African countries including Tanzania and delivered an important speech at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Center. It was of great significance to the development of China-Tanzania and China-Africa relations in the new situation. The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is an effective mechanism for China and Africa to strengthen collective dialogue and practical cooperation. China and Africa should work together to support the mechanism building of the FOCAC.

Bernard Kamillius Membe said that China is a sincere friend of developing countries and has done a lot of tangible things for the economic and social development of African nations including Tanzania. The Tanzania-Zambia Railway and the Julius Nyerere International Convention Center built with Chinese assistance have become symbols of Tanzania-China friendship. The Tanzanian side is deeply proud of having such a "big brother". Tanzania hopes to further promote bilateral friendly cooperative relations in all fields. The FOCAC is with remarkable results. The Tanzanian side supports the FOCAC for contributing more to the cause of peace and development in Africa.

Both sides as well exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.
