Oman Believes There Is No Obstacles to Establishing China-GCC Free Trade Area

From February 24 to 26, 2014, Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming visited Oman, and met respectively with Omani Deputy Prime Minister Fahd Bin Mahmoud Al-Said, and Omar bin Abdulmunim al Zawawi, Foreign Affairs Adviser to Sultan Qaboos and Honorary President of Oman-China Friendship Association. He as well held talks with Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al-Busaidi.

Zhang Ming expressed that in recent years, China-Oman relations have developed steadily, and the cooperation in various fields has enjoyed fruitful results. The Chinese side cherishes its traditional friendship with Oman, and is willing to continuously deepen the bilateral friendly cooperation in various fields. The Omani side is welcomed to actively participate in the construction of the "Silk Road economic belt" and the "Silk Road On The Sea of the 21st century". The Omani side said that Oman-China relations are developing with sound momentum, and fruitful results have been yielded in the cooperation in various fields. Oman is willing to strengthen the friendly cooperation with China in various fields and actively participate in the construction of "one Belt and one Road".

Zhang Ming said that to establish China-GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Free Trade Area at an early date goes with the economic interests of both sides, as well as with strategic substance. The Chinese side hopes that the Omani side will continue to play the active and constructive role in promoting the negotiation of the China-GCC Free Trade Area to restart as soon as possible.

The Omani side appreciates the positive efforts the Chinese side has made to promote the negotiation of the China-GCC Free Trade Area, believes that there is no obstacles at all to establishing the China-GCC Free Trade Area, and is willing to play a positive role in pushing the negotiation of the China-GCC Free Trade Area to restart as soon as possible.

Both sides also exchanged views on the regional topics of common interests.
