Special Envoy of China on Middle East Issue Wu Sike: Palestine-Israel Peace Talks and Palestine's Capacity Build-Up Should be Promoted Simultaneously

On March 1, 2014, Ambassador Wu Sike, the Special Envoy of China on the Middle East Issue, exchanged views respectively with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki, Indonesian Vice Foreign Minister Wardana, Commissioner-General of United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East Filippo Grandi, Chief for the Occupied Arab Territories Affairs of the League of Arab States Muslyme and others on Palestine-Israel peace talks and Palestine’s capacity build-up during his attendance at the second Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD) in Jakarta.

Ambassador Wu pointed out that Palestine-Israel peace talks and Palestine’s capacity build-up complement each other and should be promoted simultaneously. On the one hand, to promote Palestine’s capacity build-up contributes to changing poverty and backwardness in Palestine and improving social environment for Palestinian people’s livelihood, so as to realize lasting peace between Palestine and Israel. On the other hand, to push forward Palestine-Israel peace talks can fundamentally ensure Palestine’s capacity build-up. It will be helpful for Palestine’s economic development and to realize Palestine’s great cause of founding an independent state in a better and faster way. Both sides of Palestine and Israel, especially the Israeli side, should lift the blockade to Palestine, remove obstacles, meet each other halfway and promote for substantial progress of the peace talks at an early date. The international community should also promote peace and facilitate talks in a fair and balanced way, and provide more help to Palestine’s capacity build-up.

Foreign Minister Malki thanked the Chinese side for its consistent firm support to Palestine’s just cause and capacity build-up. Vice Foreign Minister Wardana thanked China for sending a delegation to attend the conference, and expressed that Indonesia is willing to maintain communication and cooperation with the Chinese side on the Middle East and other regional issues.
