2014-03-03 19:36

On March 3, 2014, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping and Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Affairs Grigory Borisovich Karasin held consultations on CIS affairs in Moscow. Both sides agreed that the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity of the regional countries and the development paths they have chosen for themselves should be respected, and that external forces to interfere in the internal affairs of regional countries should be opposed. The international community should manage the issues concerning relevant country's internal affairs and relations among the regional countries on the basis of the history and the reality. The international community should consider more about the future, the destiny and fundamental interests of the people in relevant countries, and do more things conducive to promoting people’s unity and social harmony in the regional countries and to facilitating a harmonious and stable relationship among the regional countries.

Both sides expressed deep concern over the current situation in Ukraine. They condemned the acts of extreme violence inside Ukraine. They called on all parties concerned in Ukraine to proceed from the future of its own people and the fundamental interest of the country, and seek a political resolution to differences through dialogue and consultation within legal frameworks, so as to achieve national stability, economic growth and social harmony in Ukraine. China and Russia both cherish the traditional friendship with the Ukrainian people, and are willing to actively develop friendly and cooperative relations with the Ukrainian people as well as to provide support and help to the Ukrainian people within available resources.
