In the afternoon of March 4, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Both sides exchanged views mainly on the situation in Ukraine.

Wang Yi stated China's position on the issue. Both sides agreed that escalation of the tension should be avoided and efforts should be made to solve the current crisis peacefully through political means.
