China and Russia Co-host 6+1 Dialogue on Afghanistan Issue

On March 6, 2014, the 6+1 Dialogue on the Afghanistan issue was held in Geneva. It was co-hosted by Ambassador Luo Zhaohui, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry of China, and Ambassador Zamir Kabulov, Special Envoy on Afghanistan of Russian President. Deputy Foreign Minister Ershad Ahmadi of Afghanistan, Joint Secretary Rudrendra Tandon of Ministry of External Affairs of India, Ambassador Javad Kachuian, Foreign Minister's Consultant of Iran, Additional Secretary Sohail Mahmood of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Ambassador James Dobbins, US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, along with others, were present.

Participants agreed that the lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan and the whole region hinge upon how the situation in Afghanistan develops. A united, stable, developing and amicable Afghanistan is in line with the common interests of Afghanistan and all parties concerned. All participants focused their discussion on the Presidential election in Afghanistan and its peace and reconciliation process. They reached the consensus on supporting the Presidential election to be held as scheduled and going smoothly in Afghanistan and on helping Afghanistan realize stable political transition, and as well on supporting the "Afghan-led and Afghan owned" peace and reconciliation process and on jointly safeguarding the security and stability in Afghanistan and the region. All participants highly praised the Chinese side for holding the Foreign Ministers' Conference of the Istanbul Process in Tianjin and expressed their willingness to make joint efforts to ensure the success of the Foreign Ministers' Conference, so as to make contributions to facilitating the smooth transition of Afghanistan and regional cooperation.
