Ambassador Wu Sike, Special Envoy of China on Middle East Issue, Attends the Ministerial Conference on International Support to Libya

On March 6, 2014, Ambassador Wu Sike, the Special Envoy of China on the Middle East Issue, attended the Ministerial Conference on International Support to Libya held in Rome, capital of Italy, and delivered a speech. In his speech, Wu spoke highly of Libya's great efforts in advancing the process of political transition and economic reconstruction and the achieved positive progress. He called on the international community to practice their commitment to relevant aid for Libya and support the UN to play a more prominent role in Libya's reconstruction, on the basis of full respect of Libya's sovereignty, independence and unity.

Wu Sike stressed that China is committed to promoting friendly cooperative relations with Libya in various areas, and has offered help within its ability for Libya's political transition and economic reconstruction. China is willing to continue its contribution to this end together with the international community.

The conference was chaired by Italian Foreign Minister. President Nuri Ali Abu Sahmain of Libya's General National Congress, Prime Minister Ali Zeidan of Libya, and foreign ministers or representatives of 36 countries, such as the US, Russia, France, the UK, Germany, Egypt, Turkey and others, as well as representatives of seven international and regional organizations, such as the UN, the Arab League, the African Union and others, attended the conference and delivered speeches. The conference called on the Libyan government to accelerate the process of political transition and improve the security situation, and reiterated the international community's support and commitment to Libya's political transition and economic reconstruction.
