Heads of State of China and the Netherlands Attend Opening Ceremony of China-Netherlands Trade and Economic Forum, Joining Efforts to Promote China-Netherlands Relationship to the Forefront of China-Europe Relations

On March 23 local time, President Xi Jinping along with King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, attended the opening ceremony of China-Netherlands Trade and Economic Forum in the Netherlands.

Xi Jinping pointed out in his speech that China-Netherlands practical cooperation has scored fruitful achievements. The Netherlands has been China's second largest trading partner in the EU for 11 consecutive years, and there are nearly 400 Chinese enterprises and projects in the Netherlands. The in-depth and extensive trade and economic cooperation has played a positive role in promoting the economic and social development of the two countries.

Xi Jinping said that China is comprehensively deepening reforms and the Netherlands enjoys an advanced export-oriented economy. Deepening practical cooperation between China and the Netherlands is beneficial to the development of the two countries, and also conducive to the stable recovery of the global economy. China sincerely welcomes the Dutch enterprises actively participating in China's reforms and development to share opportunities. The two sides should bring the bilateral cooperation mechanism into full play to promote trade facilitation, work hard to expand trade on high-tech products and on services in finance, tourism, transportation, culture and others, and explore cooperation in energy conservation, environmental protection and urban planning while deepening bilateral cooperation in agriculture. The Chinese government encourages more of competent Chinese enterprises to invest in the Netherlands, and welcomes more Dutch enterprises to invest and establish business in China and set up their research and development centers and regional headquarters as well. China is willing to work together with the Netherlands to combat trade protectionism and properly manage the trade frictions that might emerge, so as to safeguard the healthy and steady development of China-Europe economic and trade cooperation.

Xi Jinping noted at last, this year marks the Year of Horse in Chinese lunar calendar. We are willing to join efforts with the Netherlands to promote the bilateral relationship to the forefront of China- Europe relations. We believe that as long as the two governments and the friends from the business circles in both countries keep a firm belief and seize the opportunities, the trade and economic cooperation between China and the Netherlands will surely blaze new trails, and better benefit the two countries and peoples.

King Willem-Alexander said in his speech that the Netherlands is proud to be China's important cooperative partner in Europe. The Netherlands admires China's achievements and share the same view with China on the opportunities and challenges it faces. The Netherlands is willing to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with China and to make the two countries partners in seeking common prosperity in their respective development courses.

The two heads of state also witnessed together the signing of a number of cooperative documents between the enterprises of the two countries.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present.
