Xi Jinping Meets Again with King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands

On March 23, 2014, President Xi Jinping met again with Dutch King Willem-Alexander Claus George Ferdinand in the Netherlands. At noon of the day, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima came to the hotel where Xi Jinping stayed, greeted Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan and accompanied them to Keukenhof Castle. In a close, friendly and harmonious atmosphere, they had an in-depth exchange of views on China-Netherlands relations and experiences of governance and administration of state affairs.

Xi Jinping expressed, for my visit this time, I have been warmly received by King Willem-Alexander as well as the Dutch government and its people. It left me an impressive and unforgettable memory. We are deeply impressed that the Dutch royal family and the government attach such importance to developing relations with China and the Dutch people hold such profound friendship towards the Chinese people, as well as that both sides have such strong inspirations to strengthen bilateral cooperation. We announced the establishment of an open and practical China-Netherlands comprehensive cooperative partnership. It will be new orientation for bilateral relations. We have as well reached a series of cooperative agreements. The visit has been a complete success. Looking into the future, I am fully confident in the development of China-Netherlands relations.

King Willem-Alexander expressed that, President Xi Jinping's visit is of special historic significance as it marks the first visit by a Chinese head of state to the Netherlands since the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between the two countries, and also the first state visit paid by a foreign head of state received by him after he sworn in as the King. With rich contents and fruitful results, the visit boasts far-reaching significance for the future development of bilateral relations. He believed that this visit will surely give a vigorous boost to Netherland-China friendly cooperation.

Xi Jinping briefed King Willem-Alexander on China's basic national conditions, development path, development concept as well as situations concerning comprehensively deepening reforms. The two heads of state said that, China and the Netherlands should, in their own course of development, deepen mutual understanding, enhance communication, learn from each other, strengthen cooperation, share opportunities and join efforts to cope with challenges, to be partners in pursuit of common development and progress.

Following the meeting, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima walked Xi Jinping and Mme. Peng Liyuan to the front gate of the Castle. The two heads of state bid farewell to each other. Led by motorcycle escort, Xi Jinping's motorcade passed through the Dutch Royal Guard of Honor standing on both sides, and drove away from the Castle.

Prior to the meeting, Xi Jinping and Mme. Peng Liyuan visited the exhibitions of China-Netherlands agricultural cooperation and Dutch tulips in the company of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. Peng Liyuan named a new variety of tulip as "Cathay" at request, and in a local traditional way, poured champagne on it. Queen Máxima presented "Cathay" to Peng Liyuan as a gift.
