On December 16, 2004, Deputy Director-General Liu Jianchao of the Information Department of the Foreign Ministry conducted working consultation with his Belarussian counterpart. Liu briefed the guest on the functions, spokesperson mechanism and in particular the public diplomacy initiative of the Information Department. The two sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues including sending delegations of correspondents to each other and enhancing the exchanges between mainstream media.
