On November 25, 2005, the Surinamese Embassy to China held a National Day reception to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Republic of Surinam. Vice Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi attended the reception.

The Republic of Surinam declared independence on November 25, 1975. China established formal diplomatic ties with the country on May 28, 1976.
