On September 29, 2009, Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun held talk with heads of a number of foreign mainstream media's Beijing branches. The principals of 15 foreign media's Beijing branches, including the Associated Press, CNN, the US Wall Street Journal, Reuters, British Financial Times, British The Economist, ITAR – TASS, Russian Interfax, Agence France-Presse, NHK, Japan's Asahi Shimbun, Korea Broadcasting System, Associated Press of Pakistan, Brazil's São Paulo Newspaper and South African Broadcasting Corporation, attended the talk.

Zhang said that China itself and its relations with the world have both undergone historic changes since New China was founded 60 years ago, especially since the launch of reform and opening up 30 years ago. Through hard work, the Chinese people who used to be poor and weak have made world-acclaimed development achievements. However, China remains a developing country and still faces numerous challenges and difficulties. The Chinese people are fully confident of their future and willing to coexist in amity with people all over the world and contribute actively to world peace, development and stability. It's hoped that foreign media will introduce the true China to the rest of the world in a more accurate, balanced and comprehensive manner. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expects to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation and enhance mutual understanding and trust with foreign media.

Zhang also held discussions with the guests on the press release mechanism of the Chinese government and the relations between government agencies and media.
