On April 29, 2011, Premier of the State Council Wen Jiabao arrived at the University of Al Azhar Indonesia, Jakarta and held cordial exchanges with faculties and students there. The University of Al Azhar Indonesia is a comprehensive institute of higher learning and has relations of cooperation and exchanges with a number of Chinese universities. Set up in 2010, its Chinese Language Center offers Chinese language and culture courses. When Wen stepped into the campus where flowers bloom and trees exuberate, the singing and dancing students dressed in national costumes extended warm welcome. In the auditorium, university president Zuhal delivered an enthusiastic welcome speech. Students performed wonderful folk songs and dances and recited and sang attractively Li Bai's poem Sailing Early from Baidi Town. Wen and the students then sang together the Indonesian folk song "Oh Mother" amidst waves of warm applauses. Wen held lively and friendly exchanges with the students and answered their questions. He said that all countries should respect different nationalities and religions and different nationalities and religions should also respect each other. The University of Al Azhar Indonesia combines the dissemination of the Islamic doctrine with teaching modern science and knowledge effectively and has produced a large number of innovation-oriented talents in line with the needs of the times. He hopes the university continues to carry forward the spirit of opening and inclusiveness, further strengthens cooperation with Chinese universities and actively promotes the cultural exchanges between the two countries. He said that the exchanges between youth of both sides lay down the foundation and determine the future of bilateral friendship. He welcomes the students to visit China more frequently, understand the real China with their hearts, eyes and footsteps and become the bridge and ambassadors of China-Indonesia friendship. President Zuhal said that the university will do its utmost to run the Chinese Language Center and make the center play an active role of stimulating cultural exchanges and enhancing the mutual understanding and friendship between people of both countries. The students expressed deep interest in learning Chinese and said that they would increase understanding of China's culture and development in various fields, step up exchanges with the Chinese counterparts and make contributions to building a promising future of bilateral relations.
