On September 9, 2011, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held a phone conversation with his Japanese counterpart Koichiro Gemba. Yang congratulated Gemba on his appointment as Japan's new foreign minister. They exchanged views on bilateral ties and agreed that efforts should be made to implement the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries to continue to push forward China-Japan strategic and mutually beneficial relations.
