On April 27, 2013, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, in Beijing. Wang stressed that China-EU relationship has become one of the most important bilateral ties in the world. The EU is an indispensable strategic partner on China's road of peaceful development. He noted that China is committed to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the EU. Ashton said that the EU side thanked China for supporting the process of European integration when Europe was facing economic difficulties. Focusing on promoting green growth and maintaining global security, the EU would like to increase cooperation in various fields with China, said Ashton. Both sides agreed to actively prepare for the 16th China-EU summit, handle differences and disagreements through consultation, and formulate mid-and-long term cooperation plans. They also pledged to enhance strategic communication in international affairs. The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern. |
