2004-05-31 00:00
Distinguished Deputy Chairmans of the Seimas Mr. Andriukaitis and Mr. Skardzius,
Your Excellencies ambassadors
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today we celebrate the 54th anniversary since the day the People's Republic of China had stepped on the way leading to success and prosperity. Each of China's citizens takes pride in modern achievements of his country, the world's largest developing country. In 2002 China is the sixth country in the world with the largest Gross National Product, which constitutes over 1200 milliard US dollars. China's 600 milliard dollars foreign trade turnover is the fifth in the world. China has the second largest 300 milliard dollars foreign exchange reserve. In 2002 China is the country, which attracts largest foreign investments up to 50 milliard dollars. China has joined the World Trade Organization, in 2008 will hold the Olympic Games and in 2010 World Exposition. By promoting peace and implementing policy based on the principles of justice and responsibility, China place a distinctive role on major international affairs.
China and Lithuania are separated by long distances and geopolitical differences, but we have common goals – economical development, creating wellbeing for everyone and promoting peace. We make tremendous effort to achieve these goals. During the 12 years of diplomatic relations between the two states, our cooperation in the fields of politics, economics, and culture became increasingly close. Recently, the Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Mr. Arturas Paulaukas paid a successful visit to China, following a visit of the Deputy Chair of the National People's Congress of China in Lithuania. Exchanges of visits between the representatives of local authorities, heads of various companies, cultural and sport figures, will promote closer and deeper development of bilateral relations. China is willing to pursue mutually beneficial cooperation, based on mutual respect and confidence. The Sino-Lithuanian relationship will serve as a model for relations between countries.
The development of cooperation between China and Lithuania would be impossible without the support from our friends, therefore I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to all those who contributed to the friendly relations between the two states.
I wish the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Lithuania prosperity and richness, and to all the gathered friends – a lot of strong health.
      Thank you.
