Rescued Chinese Engineer Wang Ende and Wife of Wang Peng Who is Killed in the Hostage Incident Return to Beijing

At 11:40 pm, October 15, 2004, the rescued Chinese engineer Wang Ende and Meng Dequn, wife of Wang Peng who was killed in the Pakistani kidnapping incident arrived in Beijing by a chartered plane of the Chinese government from Islamabad.

Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei and officials of the Ministry of Commerce, State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission and China National Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Group Corporation welcomed them at the airport.

In the VIP room of the airport, Wu Dawei first of all conveyed the sincere condolence of Chinese leaders including President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao to the returned. He said that after the kidnapping incident happened, the Communist Party of China (CPC) and government pay high attention to it and President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao make instructions on many occasions, requiring departments concerned to work together to urge the Pakistani side to solve the problem properly. Over the past several days, various government departments including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have made continuous efforts to keep close contacts with the Pakistani side and have done a lot of work in this regard. We feel deeply grieved for the death of Wang Peng and hope that comrade Meng Dequn take good care of herself and restrain her grief.

Wu Dawei welcomes the return of Wang Ende to his motherland and family. He said that Chinese engineers and technicians spare no pains to work in Pakistan and make great contributions to local development and construction as well as the promotion of the friendly cooperation between the two peoples.

Wang and Meng expressed their appreciation for the concern of Chinese leaders.
