On January 13, 2005, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met in Zhongnanhai with US Commerce Secretary Donald Evans. Both sides exchanged opinions on further developing China-US relations.

Following meeting with Evans, Wen met with the delegation led by Pakistan's Defense Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal. Vice-chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission, State Councilor, and Minister of Defense Cao Gangchuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the PLA Xiong Guangkai, and Assistant Foreign Minister Shen Guofang were also present at the meeting.
