On March 27, 2006, Chinese Vice Minister Zhang Yesui met with the visiting EU Troika of political directors general (Political Director General Thomas Mayr-Harting of the Foreign Ministry of the incumbent EU presidency country (Austria), Political Director General Pilvi-Sisko Vierros-Villeneuve of the Foreign Ministry of the EU candidate presidency country (Finland), Deputy Director General of External Relations Directorate General of the European Commission, and Director General of the Policy Directorate of the External Relations Directorate General of the Secretariat of the European Council). Both sides exchanged views on China-EU relationship and international hotspot issues.

Kong Quan, Director General of the Department of European Affairs and political directors general of the EU Troika held consultations in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Both sides spoke highly of China-EU relationship and expressed the will to make good preparations for the 2nd Round of China-EU Strategic Dialogue, the 9th China-EU Leaders' Meeting and the signing of partnership and cooperation agreements between China and EU in a bid to promote the constant growth of the all-round strategic partnership between China and EU. Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
