Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Meets with His Iranian Counterpart Mottaki

On September 6, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in the Foreign Ministry with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki, who is accompanying Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to watch the Beijing Paralympic Games. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral ties as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

Yang welcomed the Iranian president to the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games and applauded Iran's support to the Beijing Olympic Games and to the Beijing Paralympics. Yang said the two countries share a profound traditional friendship and to develop bilateral mutually beneficial cooperative relations conforms to the fundamental interest of both countries and their peoples. China is ready to work with Iran to push forward bilateral ties, he added.

Mottaki congratulated Yang on the successful Beijing Olympic Games and believed the Paralympics would also be wonderful. Mottaki said Iran attaches importance to developing ties with China and is ready to continuously strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with China on politics, economy and trade.
