The 9th round of China-DPRK consular consultations was held in Beijing on September 22, 2008. Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo met with a delegation from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to the consular consultations headed by the Deputy Director General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK. Wu welcomed the delegation to the consultations and thanked the DPRK friends for their support to the success of the Beijing Olympic Games.

With the promotion of the supreme leaders of the two countries and joint efforts of both sides, the China-DPRK friendly cooperative relations have made new headway in recent years, said Wu, pointing to increasing exchanges and cooperation in all areas. Next year will mark the 60th anniversary of the China-DPRK diplomatic relations, as well as the “China-DPRK friendship year”, said Wu, expressing hope that the consular agencies of the two countries will continue to maintain sound cooperation, push for steady development of bilateral consular relations, promote economic and trade cooperation and personnel contacts and consolidate their traditional friendship.
