On March 16, 2010, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with new Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Zhang Yesui and received a copy of his credentials in the U.S. Department of State.

Clinton expressed warm welcome for Zhang Yesui to assume his new office. She said President Barack Obama and his administration attached importance and were devoted to the development of a positive, cooperative and comprehensive U.S.-China relationship. The United States was ready to make joint efforts with China to promote bilateral cooperation in various areas, Clinton said. The top diplomat said she was looking forward to visiting China this summer to co-chair the second round of China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue with the Chinese side and attending the World Expo in Shanghai and relevant events of the U.S. National Pavilion.

Zhang said he would make unremitting efforts to promote a sound and steady development of the China-U.S. ties during his term. He also stated China's principled positions on China-U.S. relations.

On the same day, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg and Jeff Bader, Senior Director for Asian Affairs at the White House's National Security Council, also met with Zhang respectively. Both sides held in-depth talks on China-U.S. relations and other issues.

Zhang arrived in Washington on March 14 to assume his new office.
