Assistant Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping Holds Consultations with Pierre Morel, EU Special Representative for Central Asia and Georgia

On July 22, 2010, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping at invitation held consultations with Pierre Morel, EU Special Representative for Central Asia and Georgia, in the EU headquarters in Brussels. Both sides exchanged views on the situation in Central Asia, the situation in Kyrgyzstan and other issues.

   

Cheng said against the backdrop of the new changes in the Central Asian situation, it is in the interest of both sides, as well as conducive to promoting security, stability and development of Central Asia for China and EU to communicate information and coordinate positions on Central Asian issues. China is ready to further enhance exchanges and dialogue with the EU side on Central Asian issues, commit itself to safeguarding stability in the region, promote regional economic and social development and crack down on the "three forces".

Morel said EU attaches importance to ties with Central Asian countries and has carried out positive dialogue and cooperation with these countries. EU appreciates China’s efforts for promoting stability and development of the Central Asian region and is ready to boost communication and coordination with China.
