On March 6, 2013, Yu Zhengsheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, went to the Venezuelan Embassy in Beijing to mourn the death of its president, Hugo Chavez. Yu mourned Chavez's death on behalf of the Chinese government and laid a wreath.

He also signed a book of condolence, expressing profound condolences over Chavez's death.

Rocio Maneiro Gonzalez, Ambassador of Venezuela to China, thanked Yu for mourning Chavez's death on behalf of the Chinese government.

Yu's entourage includes Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee Wang Jiarui.
