Vice Premier Wang Yang Holds Talks with Zimbabwean Vice President Joyce Mujuru

On May 22, 2013, Vice Premier Wang Yang of the State Council, who is paying an official visit to Zimbabwe, held talks with Zimbabwean Vice President Joyce Mujuru in Harare.

Wang Yang conveyed the sincere greetings from Vice President Li Yuanchao to Vice President Mujuru. Wang Yang said that China-Zimbabwe friendship is of profound basis historically and goes along with the times. For the 33 years since the establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two countries, China and Zimbabwe have adhered to mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, continuously injected new meaning and impetus to the China-Zimbabwe relations as changes occurred in international situation and the domestic circumstances in the two countries. The China-Zimbabwe relationship has made new progress in the past year. The two countries have maintained close high-level exchanges and expanded practical cooperation, with the bilateral trade volume in 2012 exceeding 1 billion U.S. dollars and Zimbabwe-related projects under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation implemented in an all-round manner.

Wang Yang noted that the new Chinese leadership attaches great importance to the China-Zimbabwe traditional friendship. His current visit is aimed at implementing the major results of President Xi Jinping's visit to Africa earlier this year and working with the Zimbabwean side to push for greater development of China-Zimbabwe cooperation in all fields. He believes that with the special care from the state leaders of the two countries and the joint efforts of both sides, the traditional friendly cooperative relations between the two countries will surely achieve greater development.

Wang Yang said that China is willing to work with African countries including Zimbabwe to push for in-depth development of China-Zimbabwe relations and the new-type China-Africa strategic partnership, to make greater contributions to achieve peace, stability, prosperity and development in Africa.

Vice President Mujuru expressed warm welcome for Vice Premier Wang Yang's visit, and asked Wang Yang to convey her cordial greetings to Vice President Li Yuanchao. Mujuru noted that China and Zimbabwe share a profound traditional friendship, and the Zimbabwean government and the people will never forget the enormous support and help China has offered for years. She is looking forward to a greater development of bilateral friendly cooperative relations.

Following the talks, the two sides attended the signing ceremony of a number of bilateral cooperation agreements including the economic and technological cooperation agreement between the two governments.
