On September 26, 2015, President Xi Jinping met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the UN headquarters in New York.

Xi Jinping pointed out that this is his first visit to the UN headquarters. Leaders of all countries are gathering in New York, which fully embodies the support and expectations of all UN member states for a bigger role of the UN in international affairs. The international community should, by taking the opportunity of 70th anniversary of the UN, stick to the path of multilateralism, maintain the purposes and principles of the UN Charter as well as the authoritativeness and role of the UN, and together safeguard world peace and promote common development.

Xi Jinping stressed that all parties expressed their hope that the UN will persistently solve hotspot issues by political means in the coming decade, and the UN and its Security Council should learn from beneficial experience in resolving the Iranian nuclear issue and push settlement of relevant regional hotspot issues through dialogue and negotiation. It is expected that the UN continues to promote global development by making full use of its political and moral advantages and strengthening coordination and input while renewing commitment to the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities. The developed countries should take their historical and moral responsibilities to provide support including capital and technology to developing countries. It is hoped that the UN will play a leading role in addressing global issues. The UN is the most ideal platform for international anti-terrorism cooperation and its member states should earnestly implement relevant resolutions adopted by the Security Council as well as global anti-terrorist strategies approved by the General Assembly, so as to combat terrorism in multiple and coordinated efforts.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China advocates building a new model of international relations with win-win cooperation as the core, and will stick to the path of peaceful development, dedicate itself to defending existing international order founded on the UN Charter, continue its support for the UN and deepen cooperation with it.

Ban Ki-moon welcomed Xi Jinping's first visit to the UN since assuming the office as Chinese President. He said that China is an important member of the international community, as well as an indispensable partner for UN agenda. China has played a positive role in and made remarkable contributions to promoting world peace and development as well as proper solutions to regional and international issues for a long period of time. President Xi Jinping announced another series of measures on supporting UN development agenda at the UN Sustainable Development Summit this morning, which is encouraging. China's support is of great significance to the UN. The UN is looking forward to reinforcing cooperation with China on a range of issues including advancing the development agenda, addressing regional hot-spot issues and successfully concluding negotiation for a new agreement on climate change.
