2005-07-14 00:00

On July 14, 2005, the second meeting of China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Committee was held in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan. The meeting was co-chaired by Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi of the State Council and Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Akhmetzhan Yesimov.

Wu said that in recent years China-Kazakhstan relations develop rapidly, with close high-level exchanges, increasing political mutual trust and fruitful cooperation in all fields. During his successful visit to Kazakhstan 10 days ago President Hu Jintao declared with President Nazarbayev the establishment of China-Kazakhstan strategic partnership and made a master plan for the long-term cooperation between the two countries. China expects to work with Kazakhstan to constantly advance the bilateral strategic partnership in the direction set by the two heads of state.

Yesimov expressed complete agreement on Chinese side's comments on the bilateral relations, saying that Kazakhstan will faithfully implement the series of important cooperation agreements reached by the two heads of state and join hands with China to continuously enrich the connotation of bilateral strategic partnership. Kazakhstan thanks China for its support for Kazakhstan's accession to the World Trade Organization at the earliest date and will as always resolutely support China's principled stance on the Taiwan and other questions. It expects to further reinforce cooperation with China in international and regional affairs, especially strengthening the coordination and collaboration in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Both sides expressed satisfaction over the performance of China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Committee since its establishment one year ago, discussed the bilateral cooperation in such fields as economy and trade, transportation, port, science and technology, finance, energy resources, mines, humanities and security and defined the next priority task as implementing the various consensus reached by the two heads of state on promoting the bilateral cooperation in all fields, especially the implementing of major projects in line with the nature and requirement of the strategic partnership. Focus will be put on further improving the trade mix and investment environment and facilitating the bilateral commercial and trade activities, pushing for tangible progress of key bilateral cooperation projects in the areas of economy and trade, energy resources and transportation, broadening the bilateral humanities exchanges and consolidating the social foundation for China-Kazakhstan friendship, continuing extending mutual support to each other on the major issues concerning their sovereignty, security and social stability and strengthening cooperation in fighting against the "three forces".

Both sides agreed to hold the third meeting of the Committee in China next year.

Following the meeting, Wu Yi and Yesimov jointly signed the minute.
