Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi of the State Council met with Kazakh Prime Minister Danial Akhmetov in Astana, Capital of Kazakhstan

On July 14, 2005, Kazakh Prime Minister Danial Akhmetov met with visiting Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi of the State Council in the Kazakh government building.

No long ago President Hu Jintao paid a successful visit to Kazakhstan, declared jointly with President Nazarbayev to uplift the China-Kazakhstan relations to a strategic partnership and reached important consensus on further strengthening the bilateral long-term friendly cooperation, which has pushed the bilateral relations into a new development stage, said Wu Yi.

Wu stressed that China and Kazakhstan enjoy huge cooperation potential in such fields as economy and trade, energy resources, transportation and infrastructure. Both sides should steadily and effectively push forward their cooperation, with special focus on some major cooperation projects, and try to reach the objective set by the two heads of state of realizing US$10 billion of bilateral trade volume by 2010 in the spirit of the strategic partnership and in line with the tasks and requirements defined by the two heads of state. Wu reiterated that China actively supports Kazakhstan's accession to the World Trade Organization at the earliest date possible.

Akhmetov noted that the establishment of Kazakhstan-China strategic partnership sets the direction of bilateral cooperation in various fields and helps maintain stability and development in Central Asia. Kazakhstan expects to strengthen cooperation with China in economy and trade, energy resources, mineral resources, transportation and other areas and create enabling conditions for Chinese businesses to invest in the country.

Both sides also exchanged opinions on the regional situation and multilateral cooperation, agreeing that China and Kazakhstan share common interest in fighting against the "three forces" and should build up coordination and collaboration in a bid to jointly safeguard security and stability in the region.
