On July 29, 2004, Li Zhaoxing held a telephone conversation with Ernesto Derbez upon request and the two sides exchanged views on jointly promoting the comprehensive development of the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Ernesto Derbez will head a delegation comprised of a number of Mexican cabinet ministers and competitive entrepreneurs for a visit to China in late August. During the visit, he will co-chair the inauguration ceremony of the Permanent Commission between China and Mexico as well as the first meeting of the Commission jointly with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing.
