Vice Foreign Minister Li Hui Holds Consultation with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Borodavkin

On November 20, 2008, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Hui held consultation in the Foreign Ministry with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Borodavkin on China-Russia relations and relevant issues concerning the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Li spoke highly of the breakthroughs made in the Sino-Russian strategic partnership of cooperation. China is ready to continue strategic cooperation with Russia and further enhance the level of bilateral ties, he said. Borodavkin said the two countries have supported each other on major bilateral and international issues with closer relations between the two peoples. Russia is ready to maintain the momentum of the development of bilateral ties, he added.

Li said the SCO has increasingly become a constructive force for safeguarding interests of its member states and of maintaining regional security and stability. In the next phase, all parties concerned should well implement the Treaty on Long-term Good-neighborly Relations, Friendship and Cooperation, and continuously build solidarity and mutual trust and deepen pragmatic cooperation. Borodavkin said Russia is ready to enhance cooperation with China in the SCO to push for healthy, stable development of the organization.
