On April 21, 2011, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Speaker Marzuki Alie of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.

China and Indonesia are both major emerging developing countries and experiencing "a crucial period for national construction and development," Wen said, adding both countries need a harmonious, stable and friendly external environment and share broad common interests. "China attaches importance to its strategic partnership with Indonesia," Wen said. He said China is ready to work with Indonesia to support each other, conduct hand-in-hand cooperation and seek common development of the two countries.

Wen urged the two countries to enhance high-level exchanges, including inter-governmental and parliamentary contacts, and exchange in-depth views on comprehensively deepening bilateral strategic cooperation. Both sides should take the advantage of the free trade zone between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), to deepen economic and trade cooperation. Wen urged both sides to create sound investment environment to enhance investment cooperation, and promote people-to-people and cultural contact to build up the friendship between both peoples. He also proposed the two sides enhance coordination on international and regional issues, jointly promote China-ASEAN ties and East Asian cooperation, and safeguard the interests of developing countries.

Marzuki hailed the time-honored friendly exchanges, saying the strategic partnership between his country and China established in 2005 covered a wide range of areas and had rich connotations. Indonesia is ready to deepen cooperation with China in all areas through the China-ASEAN free trade zone, and welcomes more Chinese enterprises to make investment there, he said. The Indonesian parliament is ready to make efforts to this end to benefit both peoples.

Qiao Xiaoyang, Deputy Secretary-general of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NCP), and Mou Xinsheng, Vice-chairman of the Financial and Economic Committee of China’s National People’s Congress, were present at the meeting.
